Born in New York in 1923, Ernesto Antonio Puente comes from a Puerto Rican family. By the late 1940s he had formed his own orchestra and was introducing the sounds of Latin jazz to the United States. In the 1950s, its popularity grew so much that it became the great force of rhythms of Cuban origin, and through it the mambo, the cha cha chá and the son were reaching the general public. In the early 1960s he was one of the first band leaders to recognize the charm of bossa nova and adapt it for a big band LP. Bossa Nova by Puente was released in the same year 1962 as other Brazilian-themed big band albums, such as Big Band Bossa Nova by Quincy Jones (also available in this collection) or Big Band Bossa Nova by Enoch Light. If Gilberto, Jobim or De Moraes are the perfect soundtrack for your pre-dinner cocktail, Puente's Bossa Nova will be the perfect accompaniment to the after-dinner dance party. Don't miss it!
