In 2017, Wet the Rope released "The Sum of Our Scars", an angular hardcore record dealing with sexual assault and abuse that drew comparisons with Swiz, Drive Like Jehu, and their own former work in Amber Inn and Pitchfork. The songs on this split are somewhat quieter ruminations on death, aging and loss, bringing to mind Lungfish and Pot Valiant. This record features Ben Ruhl on drums (veteran of the Blue Man Group Vegas). Since the recording of these songs, Wet the Rope has resumed playing live with new members Brent Stephens (Downcast) and Zach Minjack (Atomic Garden Studio). San Diego's Icepield creates a chaotic melody that upon first listen brings to mind the classic post-hardcore their home base became known for circa the early 1990s. Delve a little deeper into their songs, however, and you may discover more than a touch of the dark post-punk and alternative rock that haunted the UK in the 1980s. Cryptic yet introspective lyrics complete their unique machine. Featuring members of Stickfigurecarousel.
