But lurking in the shadows was Mortem, formed by Marius Vold \u0026amp; Steinar Sverd Johnsen in 1989. The band was one of the first black metal bands in Norway, releasing the highly coveted and brutal \"Slow Death\" demo with Euronymous \u0026amp; Dead of Mayhem as producer and cover artist respectively. After \"Slow Death,\" the band members went on to form and feature in acclaimed bands like Arcturus and Thorns. In a moment of nostalgia and a desire for something more brutal, the corpse of Mortem was revived, and the unholy duo of Marius \u0026amp; Steinar rejoined forces.
