Hyloxolos is the expansive and surprising new psych-rock supergroup featuring Dave Harrington (Darkside), Peter Matthew Bauer (The Walkmen), Dylan Carlson (Earth), Dylan Fujioka (Meatbodies), and Otis Bauer (Trench). The debut, self-titled album channels the monolithic weight of early Black Sabbath and hurls it into orbit like a cosmic freighter careening through deep space, managing to conjure fresh spirits from the tombs of ancient deities along the way. The massive walls of sound, rolling swells and long, winding passages unfold deliberately, in heavy, kaleidoscopic waves. It is the sound of an inspired group of strangers cleaving something new out of the ether on arrival. Written and recorded at 64sound in Los Angeles over an intense 48 hrs, it’s clear from the opening notes of the record (the actual first notes of music played in the room together) that there are steady hands at the helm. The experience required to inhabit both the infinite and the intimate is unmistakable. And the previous discographies of the shipmates speak for themselves. The limited-edition Peach Marble colored vinyl LP is hand-packaged and limited to 250, with silk-screened spine cards & interchangeable cover art.
