The self-titled major label debut album, featuring the single "Quote Unquote". Originally released in 1991. Produced by John Zorn, Mr. Bungle's 1991 self-titled debut bears the influence of Zorn's own eclectic, idiosyncratic projects (especially Naked City). On the album, the group switches between genres – thrash, lounge, funk, ska, jazz and carnival music, etc. – as if dizzyingly tuning frequencies on a radio dial. Like some unholy union of Cardiacs, George Clinton and Slayer, Mr. Bungle is a postmodern bricolage packed with hairpin turns, complex juxtapositions and outrageous lyrics that could make Frank Zappa blush.
