Muddy Waters- Muddy Waters Sings "Big Bill" (Chess Acoustic Sounds Series)

Label: Verve

Reissued 10/23/2026, Originally released 1960

Deep south roots meet the Electric City: Muddy Waters Sings "Big Bill." When Big Bill Broonzy — the absolute bedrock of Mississippi blues — first heard a young Muddy Waters, his verdict was instant: "Oh yeah, Muddy is a real singer for the blues." Recorded in Chicago between June and August 1959 and released on Chess Records in 1960, Muddy Waters Sings "Big Bill" is more than just a tribute album. It is a passing of the torch. Recorded two years after Broonzy's passing, this masterpiece captures a confident Muddy Waters at the absolute peak of his powers, fresh off his legendary Newport Folk Festival appearance and a smash hit Best Of compilation.
