Godzilla 2000: Millennium is a 1999 Japanese kaiju film and the 23rd film in the Godzilla franchise. In this film, Godzilla faces off against a new foe, a UFO called Orga. The plot of the film revolves around the discovery of a giant rock in the sea, which turns out to be a spaceship belonging to an extraterrestrial race. The aliens plan to take over Earth, but Godzilla appears to stop them. However, the aliens use their technology to create a clone of Godzilla called Orga, which they hope will be able to defeat the real Godzilla and allow them to conquer Earth. The film features some notable changes to the Godzilla character, including a more pronounced brow ridge, a more muscular body, and a more aggressive personality. This version of Godzilla is sometimes referred to as “Millennium Godzilla” or “Godzilla 2000” to differentiate it from other versions of the character. Godzilla 2000: Millennium was generally well-received by critics and fans of the franchise, and is notable for being the first Godzilla film to receive a wide release in North America since 1985’s Godzilla 1985.
