Of all the various strains of shoegaze that have been cultivated in the last 30 plus years, the psychedelic variety is among the least explored. And while San Diego's Sparkler may refer to themselves as "sonically ambiguous shoegaze," there's undoubtedly a strong undercurrent of the psychedelic trailing throughout Big Sonic Chill. The easy comparison to draw is to My Bloody Valentine at their most lysergic, and it's no doubt an apt one. But the shoegaze deep diving crate digger will assuredly pick up hints of the criminally underrated Alison's Halo and Swallow, and even a bit of the spacegaze of All Natural Lemon & Lime Flavors and the first The Verve album. Drop a copy of Big Sonic Chill on your turntable, turn up, tune in and drop out. Includes a previously unreleased track "Cloud Fine" exclusive to vinyl. Named CVLT Nation’s #10 shoegaze record of 2023! In April, Sparkler released their sophomore LP Glidewinder via a La Carte Records, which has sold through its initial pressing. In June, Sparkler will embark on their first East Coast tour, co-headlining with Philly's Doused (Funeral Party Records).
