Label: Rhino / Warner

Reissued 10/30/2026, Originally released 1970

Todd Rundgren’s Runt is a bold and inventive debut that showcases his early flair for melodic craftsmanship Description: and studio experimentation. Released in 1970, the album blends baroque pop, soft rock, and soulful balladry, all anchored by Rundgren’s clear vocals and sharp songwriting instincts. From tender, piano-driven moments to more upbeat, groove-oriented tracks, Runt reveals an artist already comfortable pushing beyond straightforward rock conventions. The arrangements are rich but controlled, often layering intricate instrumentation without losing emotional directness. As a first statement, Runt introduces Rundgren as both a gifted songwriter and a studio visionary in the making—setting the stage for the more ambitious work that would follow.
