To Lower The Fever of Feeling is the first recorded collaboration of Yea Big (Stefen Robinson), Jon Byler Dann, and Tatsuya Nakatani. To Lower The Fever of Feeling marks the first release from Black Flag Bonsai Club. Portuguese author, Fernando Pessoa wrote, “I write down what I feel in order to lower the fever of feeling.” In a sense, that’s why Yea Big, Jon Byler Dann, and Tatsuya Nakatani made this music together. The trio of YB, Byler Dann, and Nakatani first performed together a couple years back when Robinson booked the Nakakatani Gong Orchestra and arranged for the trio to open the concert. They resonated and made plans to do it again. On this particular recording, Robinson’s bass clarinet is, indeed, feverish, heating up the body, making the songs themselves sick. Nakatani’s percussion propels, replicates, and spreads out like a virus, his sounds infecting everything and everyone. The body, in this metaphor, is held together by Byler Dann, with his bass providing the connective tissue through which the blood, the breath, and the beat are all kept whole.
